Experimenting with Time and Letting Go of Overwhelm
by Sally ~ April 15th, 2010. Filed under: creating a life you love, time management.I’m in the process of experimenting with time and how to get more done without feeling so overwhelmed.
I have SO many ideas, so many projects, and a vision of how I’d like my business and my life to be.
Here’s the thing. I want a ton of the projects to be done….. yesterday! Because I know they will make a wonderful difference. Plus I have the usual miscellaneous stuff that is part of every day life.
Sometimes I feel like I’m on a gerbil wheel, frustrated that I still have so much to do.
And, honestly, there are a lot of day to day things like cooking, and running errands that I enjoy doing or don’t mind doing if I’m not feeling rushed.
Here are some things that need to change:
- Feeling rushed
- Feeling like there is always TOO much to do
- Not feeling like I am making enough progress, or at least fast enough
- Not making enough time to create and play more
- Feeling bad about relaxing when I have so much to do
- Feeling the muscles in my neck and shoulders tensing up
- Feeling pressured, even when it’s my own doing
- Feeling guilty about not finishing everything on my lists
- Spending too much time on paperwork
- Being surrounded by clutter
Here is what I want instead:
- To feel relaxed and calm
- To know that I am making good progress, without feeling so pressured or rushed.
- To see and appreciate the progress I am making
- To spend more time with family and friends
- To spend a lot more time playing, creating, and making things
- To have reliable systems that will save me time and energy
- To delegate more and know that it is being taken care of
- To spend more time fully relaxing (meditation, massage, yoga, retreats, vacations, etc.)
Time is not the enemy, even though it seems that way sometimes.
I am trying different things and tweaking them to see what works best for me.
Experimenting seems more forgiving and fun. It allows me to keep the parts that are working and make little changes to improve my approach and systems.
I also realize that I start out with lots of enthusiasm, and then sometimes lapse in creating a real habit of my current system. Then, when it doesn’t work, I blame the system (smile), not me, of course.
“It is how we spend our time here and now, that really matters. If you are fed up with the way you have come to interact with time, change it.”
Marcia Wieder
Of course, this will be an ongoing process and a continuing journey.
There will always be more to accomplish, more to experience, and more to learn. That’s just fine by me.
I want to make sure, though, that I am truly enjoying the journey and not just trying to check things off a list, substituting goals for a life.
I want to savor the experiences, appreciate and develop wonderful relationships, blur the lines even more between work and play, have more fun, make a positive difference, deepen my spirituality, and have a love affair with life.
I will share some of my insights, systems, ideas and processes as I experiment. So, stay tuned for more!
I’ll share my successes and failures, in hopes to lessen your overwhelm and increase your joy!
The good news is I’ve got plenty of ideas of things that have helped in the past and things that are already working now.
Are you experiencing some of the same challenges with having enough time to really enjoy your life?
Where do you struggle? What is working?
I’d love for you to share your experiences with me.
