Where Women Create

Monday, August 9th, 2010

The new issue of Where Women Create, which is another wonderful Stampington and Company publication is now out!

The tag line describes what this fun magazine is about; inspiring work spaces of extraordinary women.

If you love to be inspired by creative women and get a glimpse at what they are doing and where they work, you’ll love this magazine.  It is full of beautiful color photographs of studios and work spaces of others who love to create.

I love that it also opens up ideas and possibilities to be inspired about what other artists, designers, and creative women do.

This is the cover of the August 2010 issue which features Amy Barickman, Amy Butler, Jo Packham, , Kelly Rae Roberts, and many others.

I’m looking forward to savoring my copy!

A Real Time Saver

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I have recently starting using Springpad and I love it!  Since I have online businesses and do a lot of computer work, I am constantly finding resources, websites, and items I would like to save.

Well, my old method was to print things out.  And depending on what it is, I still do.  But I was getting buried in paperwork and then I had to file it!  More work, more time, and more paper!

With Springpad, I can bookmark a site, or a page, or clip something, and save it online.  I especially like that I can easily add tags so I can search or find it later.

Let me give you a couple of examples of how I use it.  I might be working on a project, and come across a site I would like to explore later…because I’m trying to focus on the project at hand!….I can “spring it” and add appropriate tags and a description if I need it.

I have used it for creativity and time management sites, cool artists, craft or home projects, recipes, website designs I like to help me re-design my jewelry site, virtual assistants or affiliate partners, research for articles, and lots more.

If you are planning a trip, you may want to save several hotel sites, or siteseeing activity sites, restaurants, etc. that you can reference later without writing down all the information or printing it out.

SpringPad also has specific folders for books, recipes, wine, music, movies, businesses, contacts, etc. if you want to use those.

They have a button that you can drag to your toolbar that makes it really easy to just click and add the page or site you want to save.

Keep Track of Your Lists

I haven’t used this feature yet but you can also create lists such as shopping lists, task lists, or checklists.

Add Events, Coordinate with Google Calendar, and Set Alarms

You can add appointments, events, or set an alarm.

You can access your information from anywhere online.  You can send other people your finds by email.  You have an option on each entry to make it public or private.

You can access your bookmarks and lists from your mobile phone.  And there is an IPhone app for it.

I may have to move into the 21st century and get an IPhone or Blackberry.

I haven’t even begun to explore all it’s uses but what I’m using so far is great.

If you have other ideas for how to use Springpad or use other services that you really like, please add a comment and share your experience.

Inspiration: A Little Creativity, Cheese, and a Truck

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Inspiration is everywhere.  Throw in a little creativity, imagination, and a willingness to have fun and who knows where it might take you.

Like Dave Danhi, the Big Cheese, and Michelle Grant, Cheese Executive Officer, co-owners of the Grilled Cheese Truck, a traveling gourmet grilled cheese catering truck in L.A.

What started out as just fun, to enter L.A.’s 7th Annual Grilled Cheese invitational, turned into a business when they realized they had a winner.  They decided the world needed more comfort food with a creative cheesy twist.

In addition to a simple and satisfying grilled cheese, you can also get grilled brie with pears and honey, or a dessert grilled sandwich with roasted bananas, Nutella hazelnut chocolate, and marshmallow.  Yum…..

You can follow them on Twitter or hire them to cater your next event.

They’ve been featured on ABC news and named the number one Food Truck in L.A.

It is fun to see people taking their ideas and putting them out in the world.

It is also interesting to see someone open to a good idea and running with it. I’ll bet some of their friends and family thought they were crazy.

What good idea have you had that you might be willing to try?  Can you dip your toe in and see what happens?

How can you give your idea a test drive – without buying a big yellow truck – and experiment without it being an all or nothing situation?

I must be hungry lately because I keep finding things to write about with food. Check out my blog post on Fun with Food.
