I miss the days of helping my son design and create Halloween costumes.  I have fond memories, and hope he does too, of making costumes to help him turn his ideas into a reality.

One year, he wanted to be a character that he drew.  I helped him to draw out a pattern and taught him to sew the basic pieces.

There is something magical about bringing your imagination your life.  That is one of the things I love about creating.

You have an idea and you follow it through.  It may not always turn out how you planned and often it is even better because you never know what challenges you will meet along the way.

Sometimes pretending can give you’re the creative confidence you need.

I finished up my Graphite Pencil Drawing class at the Denver Botanic Gardens  last week.

It was a fun class with Susan Rubin, an artist who creates beautiful botanic pencil and color pencil paintings.

I learned more about drawing and got some great tips for working with graphite.  You can read a little more about it on my Sally Evans Art blog.

It always seems difficult to add things to the schedule but I have found that signing up for these classes have been one of the best ways for me to practice drawing.

It gives me a structure and a commitment that requires me to set aside the time to draw.

Despite my best intentions, without the structure, it doesn’t always happen.

Is there something you have wanted to do that taking a class would give you the structure you need?
