Finished Sewing workshop Liberty Blouse
Thursday, May 10th, 2012In a previous post, I showed you my fabric and pattern for my Spring blouse project.
It’s done!
The pattern, Sewing Workshop Liberty Shirt was really interesting to make.
I didn’t have enough of the main fabric for the whole blouse which allowed me to make some fun design decisions that give it a custom look. I used the purple jacquard fabric for the collar, back facing, and part of the sleeves.
The pattern had some nice, design details and some unusual construction that made it unique and one that I will definitely make again.
One of the details was a side seam that comes toward the front at an angle, which is flattering when worn.
Most of the seams are created with a French seam which are easy to do and look very professional. There is something nice about having the inside look almost as nice, even though no one sees it.
The front is shorter than the back and the edges are finished with an asymmetrical mitered corner. I didn’t quite get the instructions in the pattern for how to do it and found a great online step by step tutorial with pictures at The sewing workshop blog.
It was perfect and just what I needed. It was like having someone show me and I got it right the first time.
The other detail I liked was that all the facings and hem are top stitched so that it will stay looking good even after washing.
Just for fun, next time I make it, I may experiment with creating a sleeveless blouse/vest with a shorter length.
