Where Women Create

Monday, August 9th, 2010

The new issue of Where Women Create, which is another wonderful Stampington and Company publication is now out!

The tag line describes what this fun magazine is about; inspiring work spaces of extraordinary women.

If you love to be inspired by creative women and get a glimpse at what they are doing and where they work, you’ll love this magazine.  It is full of beautiful color photographs of studios and work spaces of others who love to create.

I love that it also opens up ideas and possibilities to be inspired about what other artists, designers, and creative women do.

This is the cover of the August 2010 issue which features Amy Barickman, Amy Butler, Jo Packham, , Kelly Rae Roberts, and many others.

I’m looking forward to savoring my copy!

Four Minutes of Inspiration

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I can never get too much inspiration.

I think we all need to have our dreams and aspirations reaffirmed because it can be way too easy to come up with reasons that lead you away.

You are too busy.
You don’t know enough.
You can’t compete with what is already out there.
Who are you to think you can do it.
Oh, it’s just a silly idea.

The harder road is to keep going. Keep plugging away, even when you aren’t sure where it’s going. Even when you don’t know what you are doing.

Because your heart tugs at you to be yourself, to do things your own way. You would think that is easy but it’s not.

We are all so conditioned to compare ourselves and to think we aren’t enough.

I found this video on U-tube through Kelly Rae Roberts, a talented mixed media artist.

Kelly Corrigan, best selling author of Lift and The Middle Place has these inspiring words for all of us. Take 4 minutes to be inspired today.

I don’t have any support.

we all need support

This is continuing the conversation in the series “Ten Reasons NOT to have what you want”.

You feel like you have to do it alone and that no one understands what you want or even why.

It is hard to accomplish things by yourself. Why? Because it takes discipline and dedication. It takes hard work.

Sometimes you don’t feel like you are getting appreciation for a job well done. You may thrive on getting a pat on the back and recognition.

Often your own family or friends don’t really understand your dreams or why you want to do them.

In their eyes, they may be trying to protect you from getting hurt or disappointed, but instead make you feel like you aren’t good enough so don’t bother trying.

It’s easy to get swayed and distracted and pulled in a different direction when your dreams are fragile.

The solution is to find your own circle of support. If you can make it easier, why not?

It is easier when you make a commitment to show up to do your work. It is easier to have like minded people who can help you through your challenges and help you celebrate your successes.

The beauty of our interconnected world is that even if you live in the middle of nowhere, if you can find an internet or phone connection, you can find support.

Here are a few ideas:

Find a friend who is trying something of their own

Find a discussion group with an internet search

Take a class

Find a coach

Start a mastermind group

Find or start a meet-up group in your area

You don’t have to be alone. Support is just a click away.
