Inspiration: A Little Creativity, Cheese, and a Truck

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Inspiration is everywhere.  Throw in a little creativity, imagination, and a willingness to have fun and who knows where it might take you.

Like Dave Danhi, the Big Cheese, and Michelle Grant, Cheese Executive Officer, co-owners of the Grilled Cheese Truck, a traveling gourmet grilled cheese catering truck in L.A.

What started out as just fun, to enter L.A.’s 7th Annual Grilled Cheese invitational, turned into a business when they realized they had a winner.  They decided the world needed more comfort food with a creative cheesy twist.

In addition to a simple and satisfying grilled cheese, you can also get grilled brie with pears and honey, or a dessert grilled sandwich with roasted bananas, Nutella hazelnut chocolate, and marshmallow.  Yum…..

You can follow them on Twitter or hire them to cater your next event.

They’ve been featured on ABC news and named the number one Food Truck in L.A.

It is fun to see people taking their ideas and putting them out in the world.

It is also interesting to see someone open to a good idea and running with it. I’ll bet some of their friends and family thought they were crazy.

What good idea have you had that you might be willing to try?  Can you dip your toe in and see what happens?

How can you give your idea a test drive – without buying a big yellow truck – and experiment without it being an all or nothing situation?

I must be hungry lately because I keep finding things to write about with food. Check out my blog post on Fun with Food.

How do I get support?

support

This was a post from one of my Dear Sally Columns I used to write for my ezine.

Dear Sally,

How do I get support from my family for my creative outlets or things that I want to do?

Signed,

Support Needed

Dear Support,

It can be frustrating to feel like you are taking care of your family and home, and everybodys needs but your own.

Sometimes it’s our own assumptions that get in the way of taking some time out for ourselves.

We might assume that our spouse or partner or kids would be upset if we take a night off to take a class or work on a project, without even asking them.

Have you told them how important it is to you?

If someone knows that pursuing your interest(s) would make you happier, most of the time, they will want to help you make that possible.

Other times, it is simply a matter of logistics.

Like figuring out who will take care of the kids or make dinner, etc.

See if you can sit down and brainstorm some ideas and work out a deal that works for everyone. For example, maybe you pick up a take out dinner one evening a week so you don’t have to cook or clean that night. Or let someone else take over your duties for a night or you could trade duties. Or what if you trade watching the kids or some errands with a neighbor.

If you look at your routines, is there something that can be eliminated or reduced?

What if you held a family meeting to explain what you want and ask for their help in coming up with some solutions?

Sally
