In my first post Bedroom Makeover – The inspiration , I told you the inspiration started with some fabric and the beautiful color combinations of a soft blue-green and brown with touches of gold.

Color is a great way to start a room makeover because it can dramatically change the feel and the mood.

You can get your color inspiration from painting, a piece of fabric, a favorite outfit, a magazine ad, a greeting card, or a piece of jewelry.  Anything that excites you and has the mood you want to create will work.

Here are a couple of great resources where you can look at several color combinations and see if something clicks for you as a place to start.

Martha Stewart has 238 examples of rooms by hue, with color combinations from bold to pastel, and sophisticated neutrals at her site here .  There are also tours of her homes and lots of ideas for beautiful rooms.

Better Homes and Gardens have a color a room online tool that allows you to test out colors for walls, furniture, and flooring to play with combinations.  They have several different rooms and settings.

For example, they have a picture of a bookshelf with a colored background, with a sofa and pillows in front of it.  You can change the color of any of those items to see how you like the combination.

You do have to register for this tool by giving you email and you have the option of signing up for an online newsletter.
