Play With Your Food

I
have built in shelves in my kitchen above a desk area that were always a source
of irritation. They were not tall enough
to house most of my cook books or much else for that matter. They always looked disorganized.
I
was at my sister's house and noticed how she and her husband had their fruit
and vegetables in nice bowls out on an open shelf. I realized that my shelves above the desk
could be very practical and beautiful as a changing "still life" with fresh,
seasonal, colorful fruits and vegetables along with a few knick knacks. I use pretty pottery bowls, wire and woven
baskets, and colored glass to hold my bounty.
The added bonus is that I can see at a glance what I have available and
what I need to purchase. Now my shelves
are a source of beauty and inspiration as they continually change with the
seasons.
Do
you have a place on your kitchen counter or table that you can enjoy the
beautiful colors and textures of your produce before eating it and create your
own still life?
