How can the outdoors inspire your creative work? What elements from nature speak to you?
Each summer we are lucky enough to find our way to Provincetown Massachusetts. Many creative know Provincetown as a serious art colony that maintains it’s history and creativity well. Others know Provincetown as a crazy expensive place to be. Both are correct.
We’ve been able to afford to stay each summer because we live on our tiny inexpensive sailboat. In the harbor we pay $250 each year to the town for our mooring permit and that’s all we need to spend for the whole summer. Other than all the other temptations in Provincetown (mostly of the restaurant variety for me).
Living on the sailboat in the harbor I’ve become connected to nature in a way that I had not expected. Every moment of every day I’m aware of the wind, the state of the water, and since we run 100% on solar I become appreciative of the sun in additional ways than the typical vacationer.
But you don’t need to run away and move onto a sailboat to have nature and the outdoors inspire your creativity.
Even a window that looks outside can serve as a way to connect and be inspired. But for those who are able heading out for a walk without headphones or a phone to look down on can offer an opportunity to slow down and to observe. Sitting outside, and just watching the world go by.
While inspiration can come from anywhere, there is a whole lot more inspiration “out there” than in your room or on your phone.
Get outside and see what you can see. I’m confident that something out there will inspire you.
